The COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTINGŪ
ASSOCIATION (CMSA) is the organization that promotes and
provides rules and guidelines for the equestrian sport of Cowboy
Mounted Shooting. The CMSA
also produces major championship competitions, a national newsletter
and provides a central communication point for its nationwide
membership.
The sport was invented in 1991 in Scottsdale,
Ariz., by Jim Rodgers, who later founded the Cowboy Mounted Shooting
Association (CMSA). The association claims 109 affiliate clubs
around the country with more than 3,000 members.
CMSA is a young, growing organization and as
such is always evolving. New classes like the rile and Calvary
classes are being added. New for 2005 is the Pro-Competition Card.
The Pro-Card creates a top contestant base that competes for cash
purses in special events like rodeos, horse show, western festivals,
etc.
